Are demons disembodied spirits of a pre-Adamic race?

download (2)Hello M,

Thank you for contacting ProofDirectory.

Some believe that demons are disembodied spirits of a pre-Adamic race of men that lived on earth in a “gap period” that allegedly fits between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2. But the scriptures provides no proof for this theory. La Peyrère, one of the proponents of this theory, claimed that Cain’s fear of being killed by others, his marriage to an unknown woman and the fact that he founded a city (Genesis 4:14-17) were all evidences that there was another race of men that coexisted with Adam. But according to the Bible, La Peryrere theory is not valid for the following reasons:

1-The Bible states that Adam was the “first man” and the father of the first race (1 Corinthians 15:45). Adam came directly from God “the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God” (Luke 3:38).

2-God created Eve for Adam because he was alone, there was no one else like him around (“It is not good for the man to be alone… but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him” (Genesis 2:18, 20).

3-Adam named his wife “Eve” “because she was the mother of all the living” the mother of the first race (Genesis 3:20).

4-The Bible indicates that there were no men upon the earth to cultivate the ground (Genesis 2:5-8).

5-Adam had Seth, after Abel’s death (Genesis 4:25; 5:3). The Bible also says that Adam had other sons and daughters (Genesis 5:3). So, Adam could have had many children that made Cain to worry about his safety.

6-Cain married a family member (Genesis 4:17). This was allowed then because the genetic pool was pure.

7-As for Cain founding a city, the average age then was around 900 years old. Cain could have produced 30 generations by the time he died. And his seed in turn multiplied. Therefore, there were enough people to occupy a city.

The scripture teaches that demons are fallen angels that joined the devil in his rebellion against God. “And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him” (Revelation 12:7-9).
